## In customers' own words
_Verbatim quotes from this trader's public reviews, each attributed to its source:_
> "After being ripped off by rogue plumbers, I contacted Houghton Heating and explained the problems we were left with, Neil came out and assed what needed to be done, new radiators, line filter, blocked pipes cleared and system flushed out, all of this took 2 days and the men who carried out this work (Dave and Phil ) could not have been more professional, they are a credit to the firm and I would highly recommend them to anyone requiring plumbing work done"

> "After finding a fault on our old boiler we arranged for a fitter to come out and check the boiler this happened the following day. After speak to the fitter and been informed that it would be better and more cost effective to replace the boiler rather then replace broken parts on a 20+ year boiler we arranged for a quote. This again happened very quickly and after a professional and plesent chat with Neil we made the dissusion to go ahead and replace. The two fitter that came to our home were very friendly and very professional in all aspect of the change over explaining different concerns and coming up"

## Before you hire a plumber
_What to check when choosing this kind of trade (general guidance, not a claim about this business):_
- Agree the call-out fee, the hourly or fixed rate, and whether parts are charged on top, in writing, before an emergency plumber starts. Out-of-hours overcharging and 'while I'm here' add-ons are common complaints.
- Be wary of a plumber who, on a first visit, says your whole system or boiler must be replaced. Get a second opinion and an itemised quote (parts and labour separately) before agreeing to major work.
- Gas and boiler work is a separate, regulated trade, not general plumbing. Make sure anyone working on a gas appliance is specifically registered to do gas work, and ask to see that registration before they start.
- For the water-regulations side of plumbing, a WaterSafe-approved plumber is vetted, qualified to the water regulations and insured. You can check yours or find one free at watersafe.org.uk.
- Look for consistent reviews across several named sources, not one polished profile.
