After a very thorough check, clean and some adjustment the handle was moving top to bottom and the locking mechanism was fixed to a working state. In fact it feels better than it ever did :-) You get the feel that they're not just money grabbing and actually willing to help which is a rare quality in business these days and very appreciated.
