The work carried out contravened building regulations as the chasing was too deep and even created holes in the leaf of the wall, seriously undermining the structural integrity. The lintel was also chased into as well as deep chasing through block work underneath the lintel. It should have been flagged to me early on or in advance that the chasing was not possible and the tradesman should have been aware of the building regulations. When questioned they reassured me it was fine. For comfort I paid for a structural engineer to inspect who confirmed that regulations have been contravened.
