Fireplace & Gas fire Installation "Gareth was employed to fix a limestone fire surround and a LFE gas fire, both of which I supplied. The fire was installed properly . However, he glued the fireplace backplate to the wall without noticing that it should be glued to the uprights first thus leaving a 2" gap between the backplate and the uprights and glued it unevenly so as to leave a gap between it and one upright. He placed the hearth off centre. He proposed not to chase the fireplace into the wall but to fill the inevitable gap with white caulking which would have stood out like a sore thumb. With a bad grace he rectified these problems but left dark stains on the hearth. The stains did not go, as he promised, and I had to buy a special stone cleaner and spend hours using that and bleach to remove them. I had lost all confidence in his ability so I did not ask him to return to deal with the stains in case he made them worse. I have been advised that he should not have used ordinary (brown) mortar but white tile cement to fix a limestone fireplace because of the extreme porosity of that stone. He proposed to charge me £47.99 for copper pipe of which he had used 1 metre claiming that this was “special” because he did not usually use 9 mill. pipe and had had to buy a complete bundle of it. I have been advised by the fire manufacturer however that plumbers normally use this size pipe for the last metre. He did waive this charge however after my protest.

Boiler servicing and Landlord Safety Certificate Couldn't do job due to a technicality. No complaint. Answer from tradesperson: Had to have my flue gas analyser serviced, and it took ages to come back from Anton testing, have got it back today ready for 2013, apologies for that. repair a leaking boiler I posted the job on Friday evening and Garath came out to me on Saturday morning. He checked out my boiler and sourced the problem there and then. Nice guy, really helpful, super prompt. Absolutely brilliant service. I highly recommend him. (Updated on 11 Apr 2019)

REFIT OF BATHROOM When Gareth was appointed to do the work on our bathroom he gave us the impression he could deliver the required work. This entailed removing the old bathroom, re-plastering the walls, new plumbing, new electrics, tiling and fitting the new bathroom units. As the job progressed we became increasingly concerned with the standard of his workmanship. We ended up with uneven walls and tiling which was far from satisfactory, the tiles were prominent as the plastering was uneven. Our protestations were dismissed by Gareth. He did some rectification to the tiling, this required removing some of the prominent tiling at extra cost to us. Communication continued to break down and we ended up calling building inspector to asses his work, who in turn confirmed tiling was not up to the expected standards. Gareth did not accept the building inspectors comments and refused to rectify the work. We had to employ another tiler to finish the job. We later attempted to contact Gareth as we needed him to provide certificates for the electrical work that was undertaken, alas he never responded to our calls or emails resulting in employing another electrician also at extra cost to supply the said certification. To top it all the electrician told us that the installed spot lights were sealed into the ceiling. To surmise Gareth is a plumber and his plumbing was satisfactory, however the tiling was of a poor standard. Answer from tradesperson: I am sorry to hear you are unhappy with your bathroom, but Building inspector??? for tiling???? next you will be telling me Santa's REAL...I am still awaiting for you to prove his credentials, your husband was right, you definitely need help. YES HE SAID THAT!!!!!This job was done and completed over 9 months ago and you paid up as per your so called inspectors advice, NICE TRY, you moaned at every tradesman that has been to your house and have tried to not pay them, I know, BECAUSE YOUR HUSBAND TOLD ME WHAT YOU ARE LIKE...trades

installing a towel rail, re-fit a radiator No hesitation in recommending; Gareth promptly got in touch after my job was posted, visited to assess what we required and gave good advice prior to commencing the work. Everything was completed as required and more as Gareth also replaced the cartridge in my faulty thermostatic shower unit. Also gave good advice about our central heating system.

Fireplace Hearth Tiling Gareth was hired based on his availability, estimate and excellent reviews. He completed the job within the time and date specified, the price was very respectable considering the complexity of the task and he did a great job. Would certainly recommend Gareth to others and we shall be contacting him again.

Shower riser rail / bath screen The quality of the job was fine, however on discussion with other people it seems it was some what over priced. Answer from tradesperson: I am continually comparing my prices with my competitors, and offered you a fair quotation at the start of communication which you were happy with, and I have also given you extra time/visit on a warranty call which was at No Cost To You. Bathroom tap repair Arrived on time, he checked beforehand so he had the right parts with him, all fixed efficiently, would recommend him, and would use him again.

Water pressure to high on kitchen tap Remarkable - Gareth responded very quickly to my advert, got my phone number, called me immediately to discuss the job and made arrangements to come out within 2 days. He arrived today identified the problem, which was actually small stones that had somehow got into the inside of the tap head. He removed them and problem solved. Gareth then said not to worry about any payment (he didn't even ask to cover his petrol costs). A very rare and pleasant surprise. Thank you! Would definitely recommend him to others and use again.

Fit shower over bath Great job. I found Gareth to be very honest and determined to do a good job. He's coming back shortly to do some more work!

fix leaking shower, possible re-grouting / re-sealant V disappointing. We had previously used Gareth to connect our gas oven with no problems. However when we asked him to quote to refit a walk in shower he was reluctant to provide a written quote and after having started to remove some of the unit, said he was unable to carry out the job as he did not have the right tools. This left us in the lurch without a working bathroom - and a baby due. Gareth eventually made good the part of the shower which had been leaking, but used grey grouting rather than white, which has left it showing up against the rest of the shower. We would certainly caution anyone requesting a potentially complicated job from Gareth to obtain a written quote before allowing him to start any work. We will not be using him again. Answer from tradesperson: ??? you booked me for the job after quoting you on my day off, I advised you that the work required investigating which you agreed too, the job was repaired as per quote saving you money and the grout used was white but flexible which should have been used by the original fitter so their is always going to be a difference in shading, the shower now does not leak and I cut out all the mould and if you read your posting correctly, I have completed it 100%. The cost involved in removing and replacing other items i.e. Tiles/shower base etc. you did not want to pay for that, and again I advised you that it did not need doing, your shower now does not leak, you are enjoying a shower that now works, a simple thankyou and FULL payment is the norm!! fix leak my job was done quickly and efficiently and at a bvery reasonable price. Gareth even gave some feedback/advice which was very helpful.

various small plumbing/heating/repair jobs Gareth arrived at the time he said he would, did the job for the price quoted, and were very happy we chose him. He got a radiator working which has never worked correctly since it was installed. He also swapped out a broken bathroom basin, and despite the difficulties in his way did an excellent job, and cured a leaking pipe. We will be using Gareth as our first choice go to guy in the future and cannot recommend him highly enough

Washing Machine Installation - Urgent Gareth did a great job, was polite, and reasonably priced. I wouldn't hesitate to call him if we needed any other plumbing work doing.
