"Very reliable and courteous and the work was done to my satisfaction. There was a second problem not related to the work carried out and he turned out on a Saturday afternoon at short notice to fix the issue, very impressed."

"I had an emergency before Christmas and Jeremy squeezed in a visit to a student house even though he hadn't done any work for me before.. He arrived as promised, and fixed the problem for which I am very grateful and will certainly call on his services again."

"Jeremy was very friendly and completed the work as expected. Some of the taps were a bit awkward however he managed to sort them and even added extra (unforseen) parts free of charge. The radiator required additional piping to be fitted which he's fixed very neat and tidy along the skirting boards (by my request). The job took longer than he expected due to the access issue of my basin taps however he stuck with his original quote. He is very professional and I am planning to use him for more work in the near future."

Agree the call-out fee, the hourly or fixed rate, and whether parts are charged on top — in writing — before an emergency plumber starts. Out-of-hours overcharging and 'while I'm here' add-ons are common complaints.

Be wary of a plumber who, on a first visit, says your whole system or boiler must be replaced — get a second opinion and an itemised quote (parts and labour separately) before agreeing to major work.

Gas and boiler work is a separate, regulated trade — not general plumbing. Make sure anyone working on a gas appliance is specifically registered to do gas work, and ask to see that registration before they start.
