About Procter-Rihl Architects

Procter:Rihl is a multidisciplinary practice for architecture and furniture design since 1995. Christopher Procter and Fernando Rihl trained at the Architectural Association (London), Carnegie-Mellon University (US) and University Federal Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). The studio has expertise in sustainablity, daylight studies, low energy, manufacturing process, and landscape design. Prior work with well-known London offices such as Rick Mather, Allies and Morrison, Jestico + Whiles and Zaha Hadid has given us a variety of experience. We believe architecture should be climate and culture responsive and in reinterpreting local design archetypes with current design and energy use sensibilities. With each project we employ materials that have local contextual qualities. Spatially, the practice aims to explore complex geometries in architecture to create exciting experiences. A simple shift or stretching of a traditional form can produce an illusion of greater space. The practice has a special interest in sustainable design and is currently building several hyper-insulated houses. These projects employ new prefabricated systems to maximum potential and will give us insights toward reaching elusive zero energy use in buildings.
