We had to engage an electrician which had to be found externally as Rentokil peolple had been furloughed and he took advantage of the Corona situation charging £200 an hour. I was snookered and was not aware this work was required but had no choice - pay or do not get the work done."

Insist they identify and fix the underlying CAUSE — a leak, blocked airbricks, poor ventilation, failed pointing — before agreeing to an injected damp-proof course, and ask them to explain why simpler fixes won't work.
Get the diagnosis and an itemised quote in writing, and be wary of pressure to sign on the spot for a long 'guarantee' that is only worth anything while that firm is still trading.
