Highlights

"I'd given Conor about 3 jobs before the problems started to emerge. Same sort of problem on all 3 roof repairs e.g not putting flashings around the sides leading to leaks within 6 months of completion. Not using the correct approach around upstands and skylights leading to leaks in all 3 properties in the same manner. For all 3 and at different points I had to call another roofer to repair the job. Unfortunately can't reach him anymore though to his credit he did advise me he would be migrating abroad."

They done a 3k repair job back in March/April 2023, and in their invoice they provided a ten year warranty. First rain and I have small leak in the roof. I'm calling Conor and the first thing he says is that there is no warranty and I will have to pay extra. I had their sister company involved. They said that Conor will come around and sort it out. Guess what: no answering calls, no replies, NADA. They took 3k for putting some cement on the roof and now they just disappeared. Just stay away from these cowboys.

His work seems OK, but he cracked the neighbours’ tiles while fixing ours, twice. He fixed the first time, he never came back to fix the second time, after he was paid. Two scaffoldings were set up. The scaffolders refused to take down the 2nd, saying they werent paid. Conor is mot responding/taking calls. We paid him 3.5 times his original quote due to extra work he pointed out. Cannot even reach him and the scaffolder is asking us the money as he cannot reach Conor either. No invoice provided either.

Roofing isn't licensed, so anyone can set up - and it's a trade with more than its share of cowboys. A big re-roof must meet building regulations; CompetentRoofer (the Government-authorised NFRC scheme) registers roofers who can self-certify that, and vets and inspects them at least twice a year. Check they're on it before you hire.

Check the CompetentRoofer register
Never agree to roof work from a cold-caller at your door or an unsolicited 'we noticed your roof' note — that is the classic roofing scam.
Get a written quote that itemises access (scaffolding or a tower), the exact materials, and the workmanship guarantee — not a vague day rate.
Be wary of demands for a large cash deposit; agree staged payments against work you can actually see completed.
