26 out of 100, with a caution: only 3 reviews held yet. A small public record keeps the evidence thin, and the score reflects that.

Highlights

AFR completed a new tiled roof, facias, and softits, a great experience from start to finish, all the work was completed as discussed and on time.

AnonymousCheckatrade5.0 rating

I have used AFR four times on two properties now and would happily recommend them to anyone. The complete pitched roof just completed was not a straightforward project but John was flexible, responsive and kept me informed. Maurice and Adam, who spent most of the summer on my roof were polite, considerate and blooming good workers. I will always go to AFR first for any roofing work.

Detailed reviews

Anonymous1.0 / 5 ·

Having come across AFR working local to me, I spoke to one of the workmen who suggested that I contact the boss which I did. Arrangements were made for him to call and look at the job and he arrived as arranged and on time. He promised to email me with a quote for the work, but two weeks have gone by and I've received no contact what so ever. I would have expected some contact, even if it was to tell me that they weren't interested in the job. I'M DISGUSTED.

Roofing isn't licensed, so anyone can set up - and it's a trade with more than its share of cowboys. A big re-roof must meet building regulations; CompetentRoofer (the Government-authorised NFRC scheme) registers roofers who can self-certify that, and vets and inspects them at least twice a year. Check they're on it before you hire.

Check the CompetentRoofer register
Never agree to roof work from a cold-caller at your door or an unsolicited 'we noticed your roof' note. That is the classic roofing scam.
Get a written quote that itemises access (scaffolding or a tower), the exact materials, and the workmanship guarantee, not a vague day rate.
Be wary of demands for a large cash deposit; agree staged payments against work you can actually see completed.
