Highlights
“Brian worked tirelessly to apply a cementitious tanking system to the walls and ceiling of a bare brick under-pavement vault and neighbouring front door lobby. He's a perfectionist which is why he insists on doing all the work himself and believe me it was tough in that environment. But he never complained and went the extra mile to ensure I was happy with the result. He even helped remove a heavy cupboard covering gas meters (which most others would not do!) so he could apply the damp-proofing to as much of the area as possible. And, of course, he's offered to come back and help re-install it - just one example of the type of person he is. As another review says, 'he's one of the good guys'! He's down-to-earth, honest, transparent, his work is top notch (he knows his stuff after 20 years in the industry) and his pricing is very reasonable. I have no hesitation in recommending Brian, he is one of the best! In fact he's already been back since to rectify a damp wall in the bathroom - at very short notice when I was desperate as the builders were in and unable to deal with it.”
“Brian Barker provided an excellent service. He was able to disassemble our kitchen units, remove radiator, hack off defective plaster, inject damp proofing and put everything back in good order. He also cut a trench around the kitchen exterior to prevent the damp problem recurring. Hard working, conscientious and very professional, I cannot recommend Brian highly enough.”
“I was very happy with the quality of Brian’s damp proofing work (he treated 3 rooms for dry rot) and would highly recommend him. He was meticulous in his approach to the damp proofing process and I was very satisfied with the outcome. His charge was very reasonable, and even though the work was found to be more extensive than he first thought, he did not increase the charge.”

We had a problem with damp in one of our bedrooms, which two previous builders had tried to fix but the problem always came back. Brian worked out straight away that it was rising damp caused by an inadequate damp course. He stripped the affected walls, put in the right damp course and replastered the walls. He worked extremely hard and completed the work quickly and efficiently. He is very pleasant to have around and although the work which needed to be done was quite significant, he took care to cause as little disruption as possible. He always came when he said he would and his rate was very reasonable. Six months later there is still no sign of damp and we are very happy.
Brian fitted us in for a survey on a Bank Holiday as we were about to go away. He explained what was required and his quote was straightforward, addressing the specific problem rather than adding all sorts of other things as other companies had done, and the price very reasonable. During the job he was extremely considerate and worked very efficiently and neatly, making the whole process much less disruptive than we thought it would be. He also managed to save the skirting boards, refitting them at the end. We are really pleased with Brian’s work and would highly recommend him.
Brian came to look at a damp problem in my house. He talked clearly about the problem in a way that I could understand, so I felt confident in the way forward. His quote was very reasonable compared to other quotes I was given. When he came to complete the work he was speedy and efficient. I was particularly impressed with how considerate he was to minimise the impact of his work on my home. I warmly recommend Brian.
Mr. Barker came to rectify damp issues in my house. He injected the areas and plastered everything. There are very few damp proofers that will take off the radiators and skirting boards and reinstall them. Mr. Barker was very helpful, polite and well mannered. He left the place tidy. His rates were competitive and he worked tirelessly. I am happy to recommend him.
Brian came to investigate some damp in our downstairs cloakroom. He quickly found the cause which was a leak behind a plasterboard wall. Once that was fixed and everything had dried out, he replaced the plasterboard and made everything good including redecoration. It was all done to a very high standard and he cleaned up meticulously. His work was also very reasonably priced.

Finding good tradespeople in London can be a nightmare at the best of times, but we certainly found a very good one in Brian. His quote was competitive and he completed the work thoroughly and meticulously on two extremely warm days, going over and beyond what he said he would do. Brian is also very knowledgeable, knows his business and is very personable and affable. I would not hesitate to recommend him and his work.
Brian was recommended to me by my neighbour and his quote was competitive and comprehensive. I had issues with damp which were effecting walls downstairs. Brian treated the issue (by stripping back to the brick, treating and re-plastering internal walls) as well as correcting the cause (which was due to a dodgy patio installation) by digging a trench around the exterior wall. He always left the area tidy at the end of the day and the finish on the internal work is excellent. He is also knowledgeable and trustworthy and a pleasure to have around. There were unexpected issues with woodworm and previous shoddy workmanship which Brian identified and dealt with. I was very impressed with Brian’s work and would definitely recommend him to anyone who needs timber preservation or damp proof work done.
We had a problem with damp in our conservatory. I contacted three Trusted Traders listed on the Which website. All three recommended in their opinion what had to be done and submitted estimates. I chose B. Barker Damp Proofing as Brian explained in layman's terms exactly how and what had to be done to cure the problem. His pricing was very competitive and came with a 20 year guarantee. The work was carried out very promptly and with very little mess which was cleared up each evening. We now have nice plastered walls and I would not hesitate to use Brian again if I had a similar problem elsewhere and would recommend anyone to look no further.
Can't speak highly enough of Brian. I'd just bought my new home - a basement flat in a Victorian block. There are massive issues with damp. I was overwhelmed. Brian came round and gave a quotation for free of what he reckoned the issues were. He has a great manner with the customer, these things are stressful to deal with and he is very calm. He then carried out the work. It looks to be of a very high standard. The job took longer than we thought, but Brian didn't complain once - and when I got my invoice, the amount was the same as what he'd quoted me. There's a big job that needs doing in the bathroom. I don't have the finance to do it at the moment, and Brian gave me some good advice of what to do in the meantime. I will get to this later this year or next, and will do my upmost to get Brian back. He is, understandably, very popular. Brian is one of the good guys!
Brian began working on our damp proofing at the end of July 2020. What was originally thought to be a fairly quick job turned out to take several weeks longer due to the age of our house (Victorian) and the plaster shortage. However, Brian was so patient throughout and nothing seemed to faze him at all. His craftsmanship was perfect and we felt completely confident in his abilities with his huge breadth of experience and knowledge in anything he was doing. He also ended up not only treating some woodworm for us under our floorboards but taking up the whole floor in our living room and hall at our request, rebuilding some of the foundations in some cases and laying chipboard ready for our new floor. Again, Brian couldn't have been more accommodating of these new jobs that kept coming up. To sum up, Brian is experienced, reliable, patient and a real grafter who's work is competitively priced. And to top it off, a great guy who we really enjoyed having around for the weeks he was with us! I would be extremely happy to recommend him to anyone who needs damp proofing or pretty much anything else that comes with it! Thanks Brian for all your hard work, we really appreciate it!
We were almost at our wits' end due to what looked like rising damp on three internal walls. Brian came round and did a free survey and quote, which we accepted as it was better value than the other two quotes, and he seemed a genuine tradesman. Our faith in him was well rewarded - he gave us a start date which he kept to, was punctual, efficient and did a superb job. Not only did he find the source of the damp (a wrongly installed condensate pipe from the boiler which had been leaking for years), he very efficiently removed the old plaster including working round some complicated pipe work. He also did some work for us on the original damp course, internally as well as renewing some bricks in the outside wall (for which he did not charge us). He was meticulous in doing the work, and cleaned up every spot of dirt and dust - we joked that then house was cleaner whilst he was working there than it normally is. When the lockdown meant it was impossible to obtain plaster, he kept us informed on the supply situation and managed to source some from the other side of London. His work is top quality, he is thoroughly conscientious and his price was excellent value. Above all he is a very pleasant person to deal with, and we would have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone: A rare find in this day and age - someone who came and quietly sorted out our problem and left us feeling much happier, and very satisfied with a job well done.
Once again I found myself in an emergency situation with a huge leak on the kitchen ceiling. I call Mr. Barker, who had done a number of projects and jobs for me and the past. He came around, look at the problem, priced the job and did the work as a matter of urgency. He was punctual, precise and his work outstanding. I have come to know and trust Mr. Barker. He is honest and I can always count on him. In this particular case, he came and did all the work over a bank holiday weekend to ensure that the problem would not worsen. Thank you for all your help Mr. Barker.
Brian was easy to get hold of and easy to deal with. Top marks for quality of work, tidiness, punctuality and price. He's also a really nice bloke who's prepared to go that extra mile. During the course of the work some skirting had to be replaced and radiators removed and then rehung. Brian did all of this at no extra cost. Definitely recommended.
I first met Mr. Barker in 2012 when he tanked and damp proofed the basement of my house. He did an excellent job then. A couple of years later, I called him because I had other issues in the basement. He came and fixed those problems and did not want to charge even though there were unrelated to the work that he had originally done. I have been asking Mr. Barker to help with a number of issues in my house since and he has continued to provide assistance. He is extremely professional, reliable and trustworthy. His latest job for me was related to catching and fixing water leaks from a flat roof. He once again did an excellent job! He is worth every single pound. Excellent value for money! He also cleans up everything. Thank you Brian for all your help! I highly recommend his services.
Brian did an excellent job of damp proofing our hall, which included making good faulty work done by a previous contractor. It was done on time and his invoiced cost was exactly as he quoted. He was very careful to clean up each day before he left and he also took away a large amount of rubbish when he finished. He gave us good advice on redecorating; in fact one of the reasons for choosing him was that we could deal with a single contractor for the whole job; he has now given us a very reasonable quote for redecorating. We also enjoyed his company.
