Sterling Work
When I asked Ben for a quote I was worried he may not be able to do the job due to the badly deteriorated C19th plaster. I needn't have worried. Ben explained exactly what was required & how he would solve the issue. He turned a room with lumpy & crumbling ancient plaster into a room that looks like a freshly built house. His attention to detail is spot-on, workmanship excellent & the quality of his work is very high. All fixtures & new carpet were covered with plastic sheeting & taped down before starting, & all dust/debris removed at the end of each shift. We're absolutely thrilled with the result, and will definitely hire Ben again.

Interior and exterior remedial painting and decorating
Ben and Gary were highly recommended by my family for their professionalism, hard work and punctuality - justifiably so! They carried out extensive remedial work on the interior and exterior of my house. I found them to be very approachable, hard working and respectful. Their advice, help and reliability brought much reassurance. I am really pleased with the results and how swiftly and efficiently my home has been restored to its former glory. Stairs and hall
Ben and Gary did a full decorating job on the stairs and hall that had not been decorated for over 30 years. The renovation was even more needed as we had had two separate leaks. The work was well done and completed to schedule even though the plastering after the existing paper had been stripped was worse than anticipated.

Great job
Ben has done a fantastic job! Quick, clean, tidy workman who honestly only ever stops for a very short lunch break. He is a real grafter. His work is second to none. We are delighted with both the painting and the paper hanging. He arrived punctually each morning and carried on working until he could do no more each day. Highly recommended.

Stair case to happiness
Ben is the best decorator we have used. Thought his prices were a little high at first, but on reflection, the job he has done was extremely good making it very good value for money, worth every penny. Our bedroom ceiling was cracked and needed sanding and filling; it looks like new. The stairs look really good. Ben does a lot of preparation. If I had to sum up Ben, I'd say he was a rare breed, the type of tradesman we used to hear about, hardworking, professional, eye for detail and takes pride in his work. Don’t see it often enough today. Would highly recommend.

Only a small job
Ben arrived to see the job when he said he would, sent a timely quote and even though it was only a small job was happy to do it for us. Completely painfree!!!!

Great work
Ben arrived at 8am on the dot for the four days that it took to complete the work. He painted our lounge, stairs and all woodwork in the area! Did a great job and prepared everything in the correct manner so all doors, skirtings etc were rubbed down ready for painting. We are very happy with the final result!

Decorating six rooms in the house, upstairs and downstairs.
Asked Ben to decorate 6 rooms, he then measured the amount of wallpaper needed. Starting date Monday 6 January, totally completed on Tuesday 21 January. Ben is definitely a “high class decorator and painter”, perfectionist as well as organised. I totally recommend him and his work to everyone.

Truly professional throughout, very impressive work
From start to finish, I had a great experience with Ben Thwaite. After reaching out on Which? enquiring about a decorating job, he got back to me promptly, he was flexible arranging a time to view the house, and he provided me a typed up quote that very evening. I'd reached out to four other decorators- Ben was the cheapest price quoted, and he is also demonstrated he knew his stuff talking through the job. It was a no brainer to go with Ben, and he was available to start the work two weeks later (I had someone tell me they wouldn't be free for five months!) As for the job itself, it's a seamless finish. I had the bannister, hallway, bedroom and bathroom painted, and they all look great. Extremely happy with the work. It was completed in a timely manner, and Ben was accommodating around using a lock box as I was at work so couldn't be there at the property itself. I don't normally write reviews but I genuinely, wholeheartedly recommend Ben's decorating services after this experience.

Great work covering some terrible plastering
Ben was recommended to me by a work colleague after I had a disappointing experience with another contractor who did a poor plastering job. Ben came over to assess the defective work and explained that he often has to fix issues caused by rogue traders in the market. After discussing the project, we agreed on a fair price and a timeline. Ben was very prompt in starting the job. He took great care to protect the surrounding areas and then got to work with some heavy-duty sanding and filling. I was particularly impressed with the high-quality tools Ben used, including a Festool orbital sander connected to a Festool vacuum, which helped prevent any dust in the environment. After the filling and sanding process, Ben applied lining paper to the walls and ceilings. He then meticulously hung patterned paper, carefully scribing it to a stone wall, and painted the remaining areas with matt emulsion. Finally, he sealed the walls, which was necessary for the bathroom environment. Ben's work is first class, and I will definitely be using his services in other areas of our home. He was always polite, punctual, and a pleasure to have working in our home. I have no hesitation in recommending Ben to others and look forward to utilizing his services in the future.

Ben has decorated most of the rooms in our house and we are very happy
We have used Ben to paint or wallpaper most of the rooms in our house, we have a detached 3 bed bungalow and Ben has transformed the decorating over the years. Fantastic job!
Our small spare room has always been a junk room/cat basecamp. Since 2020 my partner has been working from home most days and so our shared office wasn't big enough for his extra kit and me. The plan was to make the spare room into my office/art room but when we saw how broken up the old plaster was we realised we didn't have the skills to finish it ourselves. We found Ben pretty quickly through Which. He swooped in and had the plaster repaired, the cracks filled and the room papered and painted in three days. Ben was professional and friendly throughout and we look forward to working with him again. I'm still in the process of sorting out and moving in but I've been working in the room for the past week and it's been great.

High Class Indeed.
From the first point of contact with Ben I found him to be friendly, approachable and professional . Work arranged: Main bedroom ,office, hall/stairs/landing,kitchen. He arrived promptly each day, each area was tidied as much as was possible prior to leaving for the evening. He scheduled the work and kept to the arrangements. I was blown away on realising he had re hung my bedroom curtains on completion of that room ( wow) Quite honestly, Ben has been like finding that Fabulous Restaurant that you really don’t want to share in case you struggle to get a table! “ High Class “ indeed

Redecorating 2 rooms
Ben did an excellent job stripping & redecorating 2 rooms for us, including addressing some unforeseen issues on stripping away the old wallpaper. I would like to say a little about myself and my business. I have 30 years experience in the Painting & Decorating trade, working my way up to foreman at a small quality decorating firm, before making the choice to become self employed in 2009. In the years since, I have made constant progress, in both the way I work and the tools and materials I have incorporated into my working practices. I use a dustless sanding system that eliminates the majority of dust that is associated with preparation, which is both cleaner and better for my own and my clients health. Where possible, all paints are water based which is better for health and also the environment. If the environment is a concern I can also source paints that are organic and have zero VOC’s (volatile organic compounds), creating as little environmental impact as possible. Unlike a lot of tradesmen I give a fixed date for starting a job and a date when the job will be finished, allowing the client the freedom to make plans around those dates.
