The preparatory work was done thoroughly, repairs were made where plaster was missing, and the walls and ceiling were sealed before repainting with 2 coats of emulsion. All the woodwork was sanded, primed, undercoated and top-coated. Any mess was cleared up and removed each day and the floor was hoovered.
