Highlights

"Nick was very courteous and a hard worker, relaying any answers to questions I had made me feel I had known him for years. Once the correct key was cut the immobiliser refused to communicate with the car so additional work was required to amend this. The job started late Friday night which is the only reason it took 2 days. I thoroughly recommend his work to anybody needing assistance. Thanks again Nick. Marc."

"The invoice states the replacement was new, however it wasn’t he order parts from the internet. Although the key turned in the replacement barrel, unfortunately it didn’t communicate with the vehicle’s immobiliser. After some discussions he returned as he asked to do a diagnostic test on the vehicle, he advised there we numerous fault codes showing and left. Subsequently we have spent weeks trying to resolve the problem, another locksmith immediately advised the job should only be undertaken by a dealership and the key supplied by Nick would have never had operated the ignition and immobiliser."

Locksmithing isn't government-regulated in the UK, so anyone can trade as one. The Master Locksmiths Association vets, inspects and background-checks its members - a useful extra assurance for this trade.

Find an MLA-approved locksmith
Get the call-out fee AND the total price agreed in writing before they set off — emergency locksmith overcharging is a common complaint.
Be wary of anyone who insists on drilling the lock straight away: most locks can be picked open, and drilling then selling a replacement is a known upsell.
Look for a locksmith approved by the Master Locksmiths Association — the MLA vets and inspects its members, and locksmithing is otherwise unregulated.
